I have devoted my career to helping others. In undergraduate studies, I gravitated toward classes in the humanities field and earned a Bachelors of Science in Sociology with a minor in Interpersonal Communication. The pull to serve others led me to postgraduate studies earning a Masters of Science in Educational Psychology.
I have over 15 years of experience working as a school counselor in both public school and alternative school settings, grades K through 12. I have also taught courses in Ethics at a technical college and coached high school sports.
My university education and work experience are not what makes me uniquely qualified to coach others. My experience in the school of life is.
Athletics have always been a part of my life from an early age to playing at the University of Wisconsin – LaCrosse. Post college I continued my athletic endeavors and trained for and ran in four marathons. Through sports I learned tenacity, hard work, dedication and leadership. My relationships with my teammates will be life long. One of the best lessons I learned was mastering how to win and lose with grace.
Sport is a metaphor for life and I have both won and lost in life, many times over.
In 2010 entering my 30s, my dad and long-time supporter, was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. Stage IV pancreatic cancer has a five-year survival rate of 1 percent and the average patient diagnosed with late-stage pancreatic cancer lives for about 1 year. Despite the grim outlook of the diagnoses, my dad fought cancer as he lived life: with all his heart. As a family, we learned what it meant to adjust to our new “normal” multiple times over during his fight. My dad survived 28 months and 1 day with this diagnosis.
When I lost my dad, I also lost a friend, running pal, role model and confidante. My grief was painful, poignant and persistent. I turned to running, an activity I often shared with my dad, as a coping mechanism. I also thought about living my best life and being true to myself.
This is when I knew that I wanted more in my life. The journey to make the decision to become a life coach took several years but once I took the step and made the commitment to myself, I have never been so sure of something in my life. Since April of 2019, I knew that being a life coach would allow me to use my strengths and talents to support others. My passion in life is making a connection with others, learning about their passions and dreams, and helping them uncover their true gifts and talents.
I have personal experience maneuvering through the grief of losing a loved one and a beloved pet, interpersonal conflict, moving across the country (and back again), unexpected job loss, changing careers and much more. These have all been incredible lessons that have gotten me to the present moment.
I am an experienced listener who loves human connection and helping others; I’m a devoted friend, sister, daughter and aunt; I love spending time with those to whom I’m close; and I give of myself like no other in every role I play and every relationship I enter.
Today, you will find me with my two pups, Kai and Dex. It is a great day when they are in on the fun. I love being outside, taking a road trip, or being with family or friends. I find that while connecting with others is my passion, I really do enjoy my time on my own and find it is a necessity in order for me to show up as my best self.
